Royally Illogical

The Queen was in Washington this week, and over 7,000 people turned up yesterday morning to get a glimpse of her during the "formal arrival ceremony" on the White House's South Lawn.  In this excerpt from today's New York Times, we get an explanation of why some Americans are so fascinated by the British monarchy:

Joy Green, whose daughter had tickets by virtue of her job at the Justice Department, flew in from Selma, Ala., for the occasion. “I think we love it that they have a queen,” she said, explaining the American fascination, “and we’re glad that we don’t.”

So let me get this straight, Joy.  You purchased air fare from Alabama and flew to D.C. to stand in line with 7,000 other putzim at 7 in the morning, just so you could see the Queen for about 30 seconds--why?--because you love the fact that the British have her, and you're glad that Americans don't.

In other news, Ms. Green plans to drive about 900 miles this summer to attend this year's Gay Pride in Key West because, quote, "I hate gays, and their parades are a hoot 'n a holler!"

"Those gays sure know how to have a good time, and they're despicable! By the way, did I mention that I just LOVE logic?"
--Joy Green, Selma, Ala.
